Workforce Investment Act
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is a “Native American Program” as stated in Section 166 of the Workforce Investment Act and receives grant funds directly from the Department of Labor (DOL). The Workforce Investment Act program is under the authority of the Office of Workforce Investment, Division of Adult Services and administered through the Indian and Native American Programs (INAP). http://www.doleta.gov/DINAP/
Eligibility
To be eligible, a participant must be a member of a federally recognized tribe, they must be unemployed, underemployed, and must meet the income guidelines determined by the Department of Labor. http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/
Purpose
The overall purpose of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program is to increase the labor force participation rate among Native Americans by providing workforce training activities that increase employment, retention, and earnings increase.
