TOUR 101  Introduction to Tribal Tourism - 3 credits
An Introduction to the world of the American Indian creates a foundation for understanding tourism. This course provides an overview of the basic principles required to link tribes with tourism. Includes consideration of tribal history and narrative accounts of events that shape our understanding of tourism.


TOUR 102  Tourism Throughout Indian Country - 3 credits
This course provides a survey of American Indian History and offers students a tribal perspective for interpreting heritage tourism.


TOUR 103  Connecting Authenticity to Tourism - 2 credits
This course introduces the principles of authenticity including trademark and copyright certification. Students create popular art objects and interpret traditional teachings associated with items made. Projects include dream catchers, miniature dwellings, drums, shields, star quilts, winter counts and other. Students explore and research various forms of art contained in the UTTC Spirit of the Plains Collection.


TOUR 201  Holistic Approaches to Tourism - 3 credits
This course explores the integration of holistic approaches to heritage tourism and western culture. Course content includes American Indian culture and spirituality, social customs, beliefs, values, societal roles and clan systems.


TOUR 202  Articulating Culture Through Liturature - 3 credits
American Indian oral traditions focusing on myth, legends, song and oratory are studied. Selections will represent various tribes allowing students to offer unique intertribal perspectives. Students actively participate in the art of storytelling.


TOUR 203  Tour Packaging - 3 credits
Students acquire skills in planning conventions, meetings, exhibitions, and trade shows. Students explore strategies for establishing infrastructure including cultural and natural resource assessment. Students are prepared to conduct community assessment and articulate pertinent information in promotional and marketing materials.


TOUR 204 Internship - 3 credits
Tribal Tourism partnerships are created to place students in community retail outlets, casinos, national parks, and other hospitality and tourism settings. Students work under the supervision of instructor or site coordinator and business manager to gain experience in effective customer service and public relations techniques.
