101 Introduction to Nursing - 2 credits |
Provides beginning nursing concepts that relate to the health-illness
continuum, the health-care delivery system, and steps in the nursing process. The
student will explore legal, ethical, and theoretical foundations of nursing care delivery.
Infection control methods, basic personal care skills, and beginning assessment of
vital signs are introduced in this course.

103 Health Assessment - 3 credits
(Prerequisites: BIO 201, NURS 101, PSY 101 or instructor
approval) |
Provides the student with a systematic method for collecting data using
the nursing process. In this course the student will learn the skills to complete
physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments. The student will apply these
skills to collect a comprehensive data base, demonstrate a complete physical examination,
and create a plan of care.

204 Basic Concepts of Nursing - 5 credits
(Prerequisites: BIO 202, 203; NURS 103) |
Introduces the student to principles and related skills fundamental to
nursing practice. Content areas of the course include: activities of daily living,
perioperative care, pain management, medication administration, sterile technique, safety
and support of oxygenation. Builds upon the information provided in NURS 101 and
NURS 103 as the student uses the nursing process to care for clients.

214 Adult Health Nursing - 10 credits
(Prerequisites: NURS 204, BIO 206)

Provides the student with a theoretical base for meeting
the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the adult
family. The student will in collaboration with the health
care team, assist the patient in health promotion, restoration
and maintenance through the use of the nursing process.
The practice component will focus on organization of nursing
care protocols, intervening by means of appropriate therapeutic
modalities and evaluating the efficiency of the health care
provided.

231 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing -
2 credits
(Prerequisites: NURS 204, BIO 206)

Focuses on promoting, maintaining, and restoration of mental health,
while practicing as a caring collaborative, and professional nurse. Emphasis is
placed on clients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs in the inpatient and
community health settings.

245 Maternal Child Nursing - 8 credits
(Prerequisites: NURS 214; concurrent PSY 251)
|
Applies knowledge acquired in prior courses and provides the student with
additional theoretical information for meeting physical, psychological, and spiritual
needs of the childbearing family. The student will, in collaboration with the health
care team, assist the family in health promotion, restoration and maintenance through the
use of the nursing process.

250 NCLEX Review - 1 credit
(Prerequisite or concurrent: NURS 245)
|
Provides the student with a variety of opportunities to prepare for the
NCLEX licensure exam. Systems review, case study review, question and research
discussion, video review and computerized assisted testing are some of the methods
utilized to review the principles of nursing care with emphasis on nursing process.
Test-taking strategies are incorporated in the course.
